Hair today, gone tomorrow

Thursday was my second chemo. I had my blood test at about 9:00 then went to my appointment with Dr. Gray at 10:15. When he saw the blood test results he had to double check the date because he thought he was looking at the blood test from before the first chemo. My white/red blood cell counts were better than he had expected. He did say that the days that I am most suseptable to catching something is days 5-13, which is basically the days when I was feeling better the last time. So the days that I am the best able to do something are the days when I am least likely to feel well enough to want to do anything.

Chemo went well. I was a little nauseated for a few minutes but that passed quickly. After we left the office, Mom and I stopped to pick up a refill on one of my prescriptions then went home. Kristi was working in our area showing some houses so she stopped by for lunch. It was nice to sit and talk with her and Mom. They worked on making me a few more scarves out of some material I had. Mom took Mariah to tumbling. I think both of them really enjoyed that.
I have been very sleepy for the last two days because of the anti-nausea medicine. On Wednesday I was only awake for about 8 hours total all day. This session of chemo was a little harder than the first one but it still isn’t as bad as being pregnant. At least with chemo I can take medications to control the nausea.

Sunday my hair started to fall out. As long as I didn’t brush is a lot it wasn’t too noticeable. David has to leave for a business trip to California on Monday. It was one that has been planned for a long time. He did come home on Thursday instead of Friday. I am glad he did because of the chemo and because my hair started coming out it clumps on Thursday. About 50% was gone by the time he got home Thursday night. I kept it covered so that Mariah and Tyler wouldn’t be too upset about it. After they went to bed, David helped me comb most of the rest out. He shaved the last few strands on Friday afternoon before the kids got home from school. He talked to them before they went to school so they knew what to expect when they got home. Mariah said that I didn’t look that much different than I did with my hair. That was her way of saying that she was okay with it. Tyler just stared at me for a few seconds with his mouth open then he said he was okay with it. Shawn is okay too. I am glad it is gone now because my scalp and hair was achy and itchy.
