I had an appointment with my surgeon today. We had tentatively scheduled my surgery for July 9th but I just talked to her office and they said there is a scheduling conflict with the hospital. They are supposed to call me back tomorrow to let me know a new date. I was hoping that Dr. Rosenthal would agree to taking my port out during surgery. She didn't completely refuse to take it out but she wouldn't agree either. She mentioned that she would have to talk to Dr. Gray first and make sure that there was no chance that I might need more chemo. She also mentioned that she would prefer to see the pathology report from my tumor before removing a port which eliminates taking it out at the time of surgery. So it looks like I will have to wait until after my surgery then go back to Dr. Jordan to have it taken out. His nurse said that he removes ports in the operating room with local anesthesia. Just another doctors appointment and hospital visit that I have to look forward to.
The good news is that Dr. Rosenthal said that the chemo was so effective that she can no longer feel where the tumor is. That doesn't change my treatment plan. I still have to have the same surgery and then chemo afterwards.
I am not as nervous about surgery as I was when I entered my last posting. I have since talked to my friend who had the same surgery a month ago. Dr. Rosenthal was also her surgeon. She said that compared to chemo it was a breeze with very little pain. I have to have more lymph nodes removed than she did which still makes me nervous. I am just trying to not think about it so that I won't worry so much.
I will write more tomorrow after I hear from the doctor's office with a surgery date.
