Swimming Suit Shopping

Buying a bathing suit is a very depressing activity for most women. Last week I decided to try finding a bathing suit for this summer. If you wear a prosthesis you can't just go to any old clothing store to find a swim suit. I went to the mastectomy store where they have a nice selection of bathing suits designed for women who wear a prosthesis. Because I am taller than the average American woman, I have a hard time finding a one piece bathing suit that is long enough for my torso. This really cuts down on the selection available. I usually end up just buying a tankinie, a two piece bathing suit that covers about as much as a one piece suite. Manufacturers assume that if you have broad shoulders you must also have a large chest. All the tops that fit my upper torso were way too large in the chest. I tried on all the tankinies they had and none of them fit. Luckily the bathing suit that I have had for a few years has a top that is designed so you could add extra "padding." If I cut the lining a little I can add the prosthesis on the left and the extra "padding" on the right. With a few stitches I think I can keep everthing from shifting around too much. Now that is depressing!
